Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus, commonly known as Saint Jerome, was a prominent Christian theologian, historian, and scholar who lived during the 4th and 5th centuries AD. He is best known for his great contribution to the translation and interpretation of the Bible, particularly for his work on the Latin Vulgate, which served as the primary version for Western Christianity for more than a millennium.
Born in Stridon (in modern-day Croatia) to a Christian family, Jerome received an excellent education in both classical literature and Christian studies. He traveled extensively throughout his life and spent time in Rome, Constantinople, and Antioch, immersing himself in various religious and intellectual communities.
Jerome's most significant accomplishment was his translation of the Bible into Latin.
